Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 came out on 23 October 2026, and the most common question from PC players in India and the US right now is simple: will my PC actually run it? This guide breaks down the official Modern Warfare 4 PC requirements, explains what each tier really means in day-to-day play, and gives you a GPU-by-GPU check, plus the TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot setup that stops many players from getting online at all.
Everything in the spec tables below comes from Activision’s own support page and the game’s Steam listing. Where we give an opinion (for example, how a GPU that isn’t on the official list is likely to perform), we say so clearly.
Modern Warfare 4 PC Requirements at a Glance
Activision publishes three PC tiers: Minimum, Recommended (aimed at about 90 FPS in multiplayer on High settings) and a Ray Tracing tier for 4K with upscaling.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended (High, ~90 FPS MP) | Ray Tracing (4K upscaled) |
|---|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit (latest update) | Windows 11 64-bit (latest update) | Windows 11 64-bit (latest update) |
| CPU | AMD Ryzen 5 1400 / Intel Core i5-6600 | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / Intel Core i7-8700K | AMD Ryzen 7 3700X / Intel Core i7-10700K |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB | 32 GB |
| GPU | GTX 970 / GTX 1060, RX 470, Arc A580 | RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6600 XT, Arc B580 | RTX 5070 Ti, RX 9070 XT |
| VRAM | 3 GB | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 115 GB on an SSD | 115 GB on an SSD | 115 GB on an SSD |
A few extra conditions apply to every tier, and they matter more than people think:
- TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are mandatory. They are required by the RICOCHET anti-cheat. Without them you cannot play online, no matter how powerful your PC is.
- Your CPU must support AVX. Most Intel Core and AMD Ryzen chips do, but some older budget Pentium and Celeron processors do not.
- DirectX 12 and a broadband connection are needed.
- Intel Arc cards need Resizable BAR switched on in the BIOS.
- Steam players must link a mobile number to their Steam account to play.
- Trial, beta or Windows Insider builds may not be supported.
What Each Tier Means in Real Life
Minimum: it launches, but keep expectations low
The minimum tier is about getting the game running on the lowest settings. Activision does not attach a frame rate or resolution target to it. If your PC sits right at this level (a GTX 1060 with a quad-core CPU and 8 GB RAM), think 1080p with low settings and an upscaler such as FSR or XeSS set to a performance mode. It is playable for casual matches, but competitive players will feel the limits during busy, large-scale fights.
Recommended: the sweet spot for most players
This is the tier most people should aim for. Activision’s stated target is around 90 FPS in multiplayer on High settings, which is a comfortable level for a 1080p 144 Hz monitor if you lower one or two heavy settings. Note the jump to 16 GB RAM and 8 GB VRAM here. In our view, 16 GB of system RAM is the real practical minimum for a modern Call of Duty, because the game, Windows, Discord and a browser running together will easily push past 8 GB.
Ray Tracing: high-end only
The top tier asks for an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT, 16 GB of VRAM and 32 GB of RAM. Reports from launch testing also note that DLSS, FSR and XeSS are locked when the ray-tracing denoiser is enabled, which the developers describe as intentional for now. Unless you already own a high-end card, ray tracing is not worth chasing in a fast multiplayer shooter. Frame rate matters far more than reflections.
Can Your Graphics Card Run Modern Warfare 4?
Many popular cards, especially in India, are not named on the official list. The table below is our own estimate based on how these GPUs compare with the officially listed cards. Treat it as a guide, not a guarantee.
| Your GPU | Where it lands | What to expect (our estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| Integrated graphics (Intel UHD / Iris Xe, older Vega iGPUs), GT 1030 | Below minimum | Not realistic for this game |
| GTX 1050 Ti, RX 550/560 | Below minimum | May launch, but very low and unstable frame rates |
| GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1650 Super, RX 470/570/580 | Around minimum | 1080p low with upscaling for casual play |
| GTX 1650 (4GB) | Just under minimum | Borderline; expect low settings and heavy upscaling |
| GTX 1660 / 1660 Super, RTX 2060, RTX 3050 | Between minimum and recommended | 1080p low-medium, a good budget experience |
| RTX 3060, RTX 4060, RTX 5060, RX 6600 XT, RX 7600, Arc B580 | Recommended | 1080p high, close to the 90 FPS multiplayer target |
| RTX 4070 / 5070 and above, RX 7800 XT and above | Above recommended | 1440p high, or very high frame rates at 1080p |
| RTX 5070 Ti, RX 9070 XT or better | Ray Tracing tier | 4K with upscaling and ray tracing |
If you are checking a budget rig, also look at your CPU. A 4-core, 4-thread chip like the Core i5-6600 is the floor. A 6-core CPU such as the Ryzen 5 3600, Core i5-10400 or anything newer will give much smoother frame times in big multiplayer maps.
TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot: How to Check and Turn Them On
This is where most “my PC is powerful but the game won’t let me play” complaints come from. Every CPU on the official list has a firmware TPM built in (Intel calls it PTT, AMD calls it fTPM), but it is often switched off on older motherboards. Here is a safe way to check:
- Check TPM: press Win + R, type
tpm.mscand press Enter. If you see “The TPM is ready for use” and Specification Version 2.0, you are fine. - Check Secure Boot: press Win + R, type
msinfo32and press Enter. Look for BIOS Mode (it should say UEFI) and Secure Boot State (it should say On). - If TPM is missing: restart, enter the BIOS (usually Del or F2), and enable Intel PTT or AMD fTPM. It is often under Advanced, Security or Trusted Computing.
- If Secure Boot is off: in the BIOS, disable CSM/Legacy boot and enable Secure Boot.
Important warning: if msinfo32 shows BIOS Mode: Legacy, your Windows drive probably uses the older MBR layout. Turning on Secure Boot in that state can stop Windows from booting. You first need to convert the drive to GPT (Microsoft’s built-in mbr2gpt tool can do this without reinstalling). Back up your important files before trying it, or ask someone experienced to help. Activision has a dedicated help page at support.activision.com/tpm.
Storage: Why an SSD Is Non-Negotiable
All three tiers ask for 115 GB of free space on an SSD at launch. A hard disk does not meet the minimum, and in practice it means long loading screens and textures popping in late. Also keep in mind that 115 GB is the launch figure. Call of Duty installs tend to grow with every season, so leaving 150 GB or more free is a sensible buffer. If you are low on space, a 1 TB NVMe SSD is one of the most cost-effective gaming upgrades you can make in 2026, and it helps every other game too. We made the same point in our GTA 6 file size guide, because big open-world and shooter games are now all heading past 100 GB.
Price in India and the US, and Where to Buy
| Edition | Steam India price | US price |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | ₹4,999 | $69.99 |
| Vault Edition | ₹7,698 | $99.99 |
| Vault Edition Upgrade | ₹2,699 | – |
On PC the game is sold through Steam, Battle.net and the Xbox PC app. It is also available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. At the time of writing, the Steam page showed “Mostly Positive” user reviews (74% of about 5,400 English reviews) and a Metacritic critic score of 85. Remember that this is a mature-rated shooter with intense violence and strong language, so it is meant for adult players.
Quick Tips to Get Better Performance
- Update your GPU driver first. Activision lists NVIDIA 616.56, AMD 26.7.1 and Intel 32.0.101.8974 (or newer) as the recommended versions.
- Use an upscaler. DLSS (NVIDIA RTX), FSR (AMD and most other cards) or XeSS (Intel) on a Quality or Balanced setting is the single biggest free FPS boost.
- Lower the heavy settings first: shadows, volumetric effects and ray tracing cost the most, while textures mainly depend on your VRAM.
- Run in dual-channel RAM. Two 8 GB sticks perform noticeably better than one 16 GB stick on most systems.
- Close background apps like browsers with many tabs, screen recorders and RGB software while playing.
- Laptop players: plug in the charger and set Windows and your GPU control panel to high performance. Activision notes its specs are for desktops, and some laptops with matching GPUs may not be supported.
Our Verdict: Should You Upgrade?
If you have a GTX 1660-class card or better, 16 GB of RAM and an SSD, you can play Modern Warfare 4 comfortably at 1080p without spending anything. Just make sure TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are on. If you are on a GTX 1650 or 1050 Ti, the game will be a struggle, and a mid-range card like the RTX 3060, RTX 4060 or RX 7600 is the most sensible upgrade because it also covers most PC games releasing over the next couple of years.
