GTA 6 Release Time: When It Unlocks in Your Time Zone (US, UK, India)

After two delays and more than 13 years of waiting since GTA 5, Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The date is locked in. The question everyone is asking now is simpler: what time exactly can you start playing?

GTA 6 does not unlock at one single moment worldwide. Based on the PlayStation Store listings that went live in September, it unlocks at midnight local time, region by region, across around 15 release windows. Here is exactly what that GTA 6 release time means for players in the US, the UK, India and the rest of the world.

Update (October 30, 2026): The regional schedule first spotted in September is still what the store listings show. Rockstar can still adjust times before launch, so check your store page in the final week.

What Time Does GTA 6 Come Out?

GTA 6 unlocks at 12:00 AM local time on November 19, 2026. In India that is 12:00 AM IST – the moment Wednesday night (November 18) turns into Thursday. In the UK it is 12:00 AM GMT, and on the US East Coast it is 12:00 AM ET.

Because the launch follows local midnight, players in New Zealand get in first, and the US West Coast is one of the last major regions to unlock. As Pure Xbox reported, New Zealand’s midnight works out to 11:00 GMT on November 18 – a full day before some American players.

GTA 6 Unlock Times by Region

Tip: the UTC column is handy if you want to know when friends in other countries will be playing. For example, an Indian player starts at 18:30 UTC, about 10.5 hours before someone in New York.

When Do Other Countries Start Playing, in IST?

If you are in India and want to know when spoilers will start appearing online, this is when the game opens elsewhere, converted to Indian time:

That means story footage could start circulating from late afternoon on November 18 in India. If you want to stay spoiler-free, mute GTA keywords on social media that evening.

Why Do Players in India Get GTA 6 Before the US?

It comes down to time zones. A midnight-local launch rolls across the globe as each country reaches November 19. India is 10.5 hours ahead of New York (after US clocks fall back in November), so Indian players hit midnight much earlier. It is not an “early access” perk – everyone gets the game on the same calendar date in their own country.

Is the Unlock Time Different on PS5 and Xbox?

The published schedule comes from PlayStation Store listings. Xbox has not shown a separate schedule, and both versions are expected to unlock at the same local time. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and PC is not part of the November 19 launch – see our guide on whether GTA 6 is coming to PC.

Can You Play GTA 6 Early?

Rockstar has not announced any early-access or paid head-start program. What you can do is download the game ahead of time. Preloading opens on November 12 for pre-orders, so the game is ready to launch the second it unlocks. Our GTA 6 preload guide walks you through it on both consoles.

You may also see social media posts about switching your Xbox region to New Zealand to start a few hours earlier. This is not an official feature. Changing your account region can affect your wallet balance, store prices and subscriptions, and outlets covering the trick note that it is done at your own risk. For most players, a few hours is not worth the hassle.

Your GTA 6 Launch-Night Checklist

• Pre-order if you want to preload – see current GTA 6 prices in India and the US.
• Clear storage early. The game is reported to need around 210GB on PS5 – check our GTA 6 file size guide.
• Update your console system software a day before so you do not lose time at midnight.
• Turn on auto-downloads so the day-one patch installs automatically.
• Restart the game at midnight if it still shows as locked – the store sometimes takes a few minutes to update.
• Keep your internet stable – launch-night servers are always busy.

Game Still Locked After Midnight? Try This

• Check that your console’s date, time and time zone are set correctly and synced automatically.
• Make sure you are signed in to the account that bought the game and that the console is online.
• On PS5, use Restore Licences in the user settings; on Xbox, close the game and restart the console.
• If thousands of players report the same issue, it is probably a server delay – wait 15–30 minutes and try again.
